The Importance Of Pre-K Courses - 994 Words

Pre-k courses begin when a child is between the ages of three and five. At age four I was enrolled in pre-k courses at Blessed Trinity Catholic School. This was the start of my faith and spiritual journey towards Catholicism. Blessed Trinity is a private school in Jacksonville which offers courses for elementary students and also middle school students. Typically classes were no larger than 30 students per class and per grade with one individual teacher for each grade. The daily routine stood for every student, teacher and faculty member in the school. The daily routine consisted of students being dropped off at the school and from there children reported to the cafeteria for morning attendance, prayer and pledge. After having received this sacrament students continue on learning about the faith of God through traditional views. All previous teachings lead up to the sacrament of co nfirmation which takes place in eighth grade. Upon learning the sacraments, scriptures, prayers, and teaching of Christ the eighth grade students again renew their vows from baptism renouncing Satan and all of his works. Those who choose to continue on with the catholic school attend Bishop Kenny High School. I, however, made the chose to attend a public school for the first time. The change was dramatic, I went from a class of thirty people who I have known majority of my life, to knowing absolutely no one in a school with more than two thousand students. I did not stray far from my faith my freshman year, every Sunday I would attend the morning service and senior youth group at Blessed Trinity’s parish hall. This was an organized group made to give teens more of an understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ. As my freshman year in high school continued I found myself going to church less and every so often I would attend the meetings. The start of my sophomore year consisted of attending two youth group meetings and then none. Life began to take place and I had made no effort to attend Sunday service. The entire system has done a complete evolution from what it used to be and now the amazing technology, advances in medicine and health care economics are contributing factors to its rapid progression. Ancient Greek Architecture Analysis Essay The Greek culture has had a huge impact on the history of the world. There is something Greek in almost everything, especially in the worlds architecture. Greece no longer had one king, so they focused on building temples for their gods. Architecture began small and plain but evolved into impressive pieces of art. As time passed from the Archaic period to the Hellenistic period, the people of Greece developed a type of formula for their buildings and their pieces of art. In Ancient Greece, religion dominated their life, so it is understandable that their architecture would be dominated by their religion. Before Greece became many different city-states, they had kings, and they would build a room called a megaron to show they Kings authority. A typical megaron is a single chamber with a fire pit in the middle with a throne off to the side. This room opened up into a porch (portico) that had four columns in the front. After there were no more kings these megarons turned into temples. The fire pit, which turned into some type of altar or a place to show a sacrifice for that god, was now outside in front of the temple. The altar was now outside so people could see you make these sacrifices to their gods. The first Greek temples were made out of wood and were long rectangular buildings with a porch all the way around which was supported by columns made from tree trunks. A Greek temple consists of five basic parts: the pediment, entablature, columns, base, and the cella, or the inner sanctum. The pediment is triangular and would have a type of sculpture or ornament known as acreteria on each corner. An entablature consists of three parts: the cornice, frieze, and architrave, which holds up the pediment. The columns are the support between the entablature and the base. The base usually consists of three steps. The cella is the inner sanctum, which has different rooms with more columns for support. Each temple would have a cella but they were not identical. The Greeks developed an architectural system called an order, to distinguish the different styles of temples. Each order has a different proportions, entablature, and columns. The three Greek orders are called Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. The Doric order is considered to be the masculine order. The columns are short and stout and very plain. A Doric column has no base and the capital is plain. The height of the column would always be four and a half or five times the diameter of the column. They are also described as being entasis, meaning that about two thirds of the way up the column begins to taper in. The fluting of the columns was hallowed out semi-circles. The entablature of a Doric temple is also very plain. The cornice is plain, meaning there is no ornament on the cornice. The frieze is broken up into triglyphs and metopes. A triglyph are a series of sculpted vertical lines, and a metope is a plain area. The architrave is one full piece with no ornament. An Ionic temple is c onsidered to be feminine. The Ionic temple is very different to the Doric. An Ionic column is very sleek and slender. Just like the Doric column, the Ionic column is proportioned to its diameter. The height of an Ionic column is nine to ten times the diameter. The column has a base and the capital is more decorative with the use of scroll volutes. The fluting is very much like the Doric except there is a flat area in between every hallowed out semi-circle. The entablature of an Ionic temple has a lot more decoration. The cornice and the frieze with both have some sort of ornament or sculpture. The number of columns is always even because if there were an odd number of columns, then there would be a column on the axis of symmetry. They didnt want a column in the middle because than you would have to walk around the column to get into the temple. The most common temples would be called hexastyle because it would have six columns in the front. If there was four columns across then it would be called tetrastyle or eight across would be called octastyle. Another way to classify a temple is how the columns are distributed. When a temple only has a row of columns on the front and has end walls, it is called in antis. If the temple has a row of columns on the front with no end walls, it is called prostyle. If a temple has a front and back portico with columns, it is called amphiprostyle. The most famous Greek temples would be considered to be peripteral, meaning th at it has columns all the way around the building. The Greeks had a certain formula on how many columns would go on each side of a peripertal temple. They would take the number of columns in the front portico and multiply it by two and add one. If your temple was hexastyle and peripertal, than there would be thirteen columns on each side ( 6+6+1= 13). The Greeks had developed a type of formula when it came to the construction of a temple. There is not a major difference in architecture between the Archaic period and the Classical period. During the Archaic period they began to use stone instead of wood. Some of the most preserved remains of Archaic temples are found in Paestrum, Italy. Paestrum would be considered part of Magnagracia. The Basilica, originally known as the Temple of Hera I, is the oldest Archaic temple in Paestrum. You can tell that they had not got down the formula yet for a typical Doric peripertal temple. The most famous Classical temples and buildings are in the acropolis of Athens. Every city had an acropolis (meaning high city), at the highest point of the city. The Athenian acropolis had been destroyed during the Persian Wars and the Athenians decided to leave it in ruins. Around 440 B.C. a new generation wanted to build the Parthenon bigger and better. The Parthenon is also known as the Temple of Athena Parthenos. The new Parthenon was meant to be the greatest temple ever built. Every inch of the Parthenon is made of marble, even the roof tiles. Greek temples were usually hexastyle but they wanted the Parthenon to be bigger so it had eight columns across instead of six columns. According to The Humanistic Tradition, the ninety-two metopes that occupy the frieze illustrate scenes of combat between the Greeks and Giants, Amazons, and Centaurs. Each metope showed the fight between two opponents, one being human and the other being a non-human. The architects made many lines curve up ward to make the Parthenon look even bigger. The sculpture on the Parthenon was at one time painted in bright colors. Another main building on the acropolis is the Erechtheum. The floor plan for the Erechtheum is very unique and unusual. There are different sections for Athena Polias, Poseidon, and Erechtheus. The most famous aspect to the Erechtheum is known as the Porch of Maidens or the Porch of Caryatids. The hardest aspect would be using the guidelines of paragraph writing. In the past four weeks I have learned numerous things about writing. I learned to begin with an idea. After developing an idea support those ideas with examples for further understanding, and learning the importance of introductions and conclusions. Writing paragraphs helps to able to write more effectively for school assignments. Reflecting on my experiences with illustration paragraphs I chose an issue that related to me as choice of topic. Choosing the topic was my easiest step in the writing process. I enjoy researching information for personal purpose as well as to be visual with my ideas. Creating different ways to rephrase my examples was the biggest challenge it’s what I would need to work on most. Using different was to rephrase my examples would make my ideas flow more effectively. I learned as a writer that I have the ability to be creative in ideas. Using a topic that aroused my interest was the most comfortable portion of the assignment. Carefully following the structure of a definition paragraph is what I would like to work on. I believe the development of the structure will turn out better essays. I learned approaches to explain different terms. My goals of being a definitive writer have been achieved. Earlier increasing my understanding of writing, structures and grammar usage were goals that were set. Now being more efficient towards the criteria of production is an immediate goal. I would like to create a sense of urgency in creativity also in my development as a writer. In my progress I will spend more than time and motivate myself to meet the goals I set. A website entitled â€Å"Value for your life† was a resource I used in my goal setting. The tips included were kept in my thoughts in writing. In conclusion paragraph writing is a challenging aspect of writing. During the process of completing the assignment I was able to expand my level of thoughts improving my skills overall as a writer. It is no secret that politics plays a big role when it comes to the introduction of the wireless electricity. Some parties are for it, as it can allow for slightly greener ways of powering devices, new jobs, and easier access. But others are against it, seeing the change as a threat to old ways of doing things, as well as a way for people to access electricity for free. Though wireless transmissions and the idea of wireless electricity have existed for quite some time, the actual possibility of creating usable, accessible wireless electricity is just now starting to become a reality. With wireless electricity looming on the horizon, more and more politicians, civilians, and companies are beginning to stand behind the idea; but that has not always been the case. Politics first began working their way into wireless electricity in 1905, when J. P. Morgan pulled all of his funding from Nikola Tesla’s Wardenclyffe Tower project when he erroneously began to believe that it could lead to free electricity for all (Haliburton, 2006). It is that same type of thinking that has helped to keep wireless electricity out of the mainstream for so long. However, information and general knowledge about wireless electricity has come far, and that type of thinking is quickly disappearing. With the recent surge of environmental and financial awareness, people are quickly beginning to gravitate towards the idea of wireless electricity. Even power companies are getting behind the idea, seeing a way to expand their business. Though the idea of wireless electricity has just begun to reemerge, it will quickly become a hot political topic, just as other forms of alternative energy have. The question is this: Will the general public and politicians continue to gravitate towards this new concept? And if they do, how long will it be until wireless electricity becomes the norm?

Raunch culture is known as a sexualized lifestyle. Many businesses, advertisements, movies, and people partake in this lifestyle choice every day. Ariel Levy’s standpoint in â€Å"Female Chauvinist Pigs† is that raunch culture empowers women. I have mixed feelings about this article. I disagree that raunch culture empowers women however I agree there is just a certain way you have to do it. In reading Levy’s article she discusses raunch culture and how women feel empowered by it. Women feel like being sexy or sexually stimulating men makes them feel more in control. Levy gives a different outlook on the women that partake in this lifestyle. Levy feels that women are close-minded when discussing sexual things. Levy gives an inside look on certain women that partake in this industry by showing that its way more than just â€Å"sex†. Ruanch culture makes women look worthless and gives off the impression that they don’t have any self-respect. We are looked at as just a â€Å"sexual object† rather than a respected woman. Ruach culture suppresses us as women and we are getting nowhere as women with these kind of vulgar activity’s. Women today are still being looked at as weaker than men. I have googled multiple porn stars of today such as Pinky, Jenna Jameson, and many others; they all seem to have one thing in common. These women don’t have husbands, children, and they don’t get along with their family. I know from a personal experience with having brothers that they would never take a stripper or a porn-star home to my mother. It might be cool to sleep with them but at the  end of the day a man wants a woman that is respectable and classy, basically someone they can actually take home there to mom. My mother always says â€Å"if you don’t have respect for yourself, how are you going to have respect for others†. Ruanch culture also objectifies women instead of empowering them. I did some research and found a biography on Jenna Jameson, a world known porn-star, on YouTube. She talked about her life, family, community service that she has done. Although she spoke on all those positive things people’s comments were still derogatory, calling her a â€Å"hoe† and a â€Å"slut†. Even though she has done many things in the community she is still looked upon as nothing more than a porn-star. This is what I meant by saying that ruanch does not empower women. This woman can give thousands to charity’s do numerous community activities help people all around the world but her erotic lifestyle will never get her the respect she deserves. If anyone has ever watched the HBO show called â€Å"Sex in The City† raunchy culture is the whole makeup of the show. Basically the show is about four ladies that are the best of friends they go to parties and they speak about their sexual experiences love interests and careers. The main character Carrey Bradshaw is a sex column writer for the New York Times. She gives women advice on how to deal with sex and relationships. This to me walks a fine line with raunchiness. In the show people are so glad that she writes these columns, she helps out regular women with awkward situations such as sex. This is a different form of raunchiness and I actually accept it. Carrey helps women get through difficult times with the different men in their life. A lot of times women don’t know what to do in certain situations and feel embarrassed about asking someone for advice that is where she comes in to help with her column. She is not showing her breast or objectifying her, she is only just giving advice on the topic of sex still raunchy but in the way that she is writing, it comes off respectable. As women we should come together and stop objectifying ourselves. I feel that porn should be banded on the fact that as women it’s getting us nowhere. People are only looking at us as these sexual objects rather than  smart sophisticated human beings that we actually are. Porn is a disgrace for all women.
